Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the activity of optimizing web pages or whole sites in order to make them search engine friendly, thus getting higher positions in search results.

SEO in Liferay

Liferay is often used to build public websites, and for this reason it provides a wide range of features to help make such sites show up at the top of the search results.

These features have been improved over the last versions of the product and in version 5.2 is one of the best tools out there to build sites that are SEO friendly.

Liferay by default gives us some ways to make our site optimized.Its easy to optimize in liferay.

To do SEO in liferay Click on Pages under Admin.

 And select on page which you want to do SEO and in right menu select SEO as shown in image.

 

Give meta tags 

 

Meta Tags:

Metadata is data (information) about data.

The <meta> tag provides metadata about the HTML document. Metadata will not be displayed on the page, but will be machine parsable.

Meta elements are typically used to specify page description, keywords, author of the document, last modified, and other metadata.

The metadata can be used by browsers (how to display content or reload page), search engines (keywords), or other web services.


Meta Description:

A description of your site in 3 to 4 sentences.

Meta Keywords:

It's very important that you add the keywords you want your site to be found under in your KEYWORD tag. If a search engine spider finds the same words on your site and in your meta tags, these words will be ranked higher in the search index. Don't add too many words, the most search engines will only index the first 20 words. Make sure that you put the 10 most important keywords first.

Try to give each page of your website a relevant title, description and keywords that correspond with the text on your website. A visitor will find the exact information within your website, on the correct page.


Meta Robots: 
You can use this to tell robots not to index the content of a page, and/or not scan it for links.

Examples:all,noindex,nofollow,none,etc.

Then give sitemap details

SiteMap

Sitemaps are an easy way for webmasters to inform search engines about pages on their sites that are available for crawling.

Select yes if you want to include sitemap.

Priority

The <priority> tag is used in XML sitemaps, by the webmaster, to signal the importance of individual pages in the website to Google and other search engines.   How to decide sitemap priority values: Priority values are relative within your website. Valid priority values have range interval[0.0,0.1,0.2,0.3,0.4,0.5,0.6,0.7,0.8,0.9,1.0]. This means that the priority of your most important page should be [1.0]. The priority of pages should decrease based on its importance.   So give your value between 0.0-1.0 as you need.And select your change frequency.
